The Wolfsburg striker then moved into joint-third in her country’s all-time top goalscorer list with her 64th goal when she headed in from a corner.

Buhl then pounced on a rebound to finish from 10 yard and make it three just after the break, before El Haj deflected a cross into her own net.

Morocco’s misfortune continued when Er-Rmichi punched a corner into the back of Mrabet and the ball bounced in, before Schuller rounded off the scoring with an easy finish after a German counter-attack.

Germany face Colombia in their next match knowing that a win would be enough to qualify for the second round with a game to spare. Morocco come up against South Korea as they hunt for their first Women’s World Cup point.
