Serena Williams has strolled into the Wimbledon quarter-final after beating Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets.

The seven-time champion needed just 65 minutes to defeat her opponent and will play fellow American Alison Riske, who defeated world number one Ashleigh Barty earlier in the day.

Williams needed no time to establish a lead and broke in the opening game on the way to a 6-2 win.

The 37-year-old won the opening three games of the second set, but was broken to love as Suarez Navarro tried to fight back.

That was the Spaniard’s only success though. There was time for one more break from Williams, who is also still in the hunt for a mixed doubles title with Andy Murray.
