Barbora Strycova has defeated Elise Mertens to book her place in the Wimbledon quarter-final.

The world number 54 looked to be heading out in straight sets, but came from 5-2 down in the second set to level, before completing a 4-6 7-5 6-2 victory.

Strycova broke serve first in the opener, but Mertens replied immediately before taking the set 6-4.

The Belgian looked to be strolling towards victory, earning a 5-2 lead in the second set. Strycova came back though and broke serve twice in succession before serving for the set.

Strycova’s momentum continued into the deciding set, and stretched her winning streak to nine games on the way to a 4-0 lead. Mertens did manage to hold her final two service games but Strycova eventually eased to an unlikely victory.

The Czech will play British number one Johanna Konta or world number six Petra Kvitova in the quarter-final.
