Toby Roland-Jones’ bowling puts England in control against South Africa

Debutant Toby Roland-Jones posted figures of 4-39 to put England in control of the Second Test, leaving South Africa with an overnight score of 126/8.

Ben Stokes led England’s charge with the bat in the morning before being caught for 112, whilst Alistair Cook managed 88 after scoring 82 not out yesterday.

John Bairstow, Roland-Jones and Moeen Ali added 77 between them to take England’s score to 353.

Roland-Jones started the South African innings in style, taking four wickets inside the first 16 overs to leave South Africa scrambling at 47/4.

Bowler Kagiso Rabada kept South Africa’s innings going, scoring 30 before being bowled by Stuart Broad, while Temba Bavuma top-scored with 34 not out.

South Africa still need 28 runs tomorrow to avoid the follow-on.
