Simona Halep is through to the French Open semi-final after beating Angelique Kerber in three sets.

The world number one needed to come from behind but eventually came through 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 6-2 after two hours and 16 minutes.

Kerber won the opening four games of the opener before Halep eventually struck back for 5-5.

Halep then was broken but broke straight back to force a tie-break. Kerber won the final five points on the bounce to take the first set.

The Romanian started the second set perfectly with a break and held serve throughout. In the ninth game, Kerber saved three set points but Halep eventually took the game to level.

Halep broke three times in the decider, and took match point at 30-40 in the eighth game to progress.

The two-time finalist will play Garbine Muguruza in the semi-final later this week after the Spaniard beat Maria Sharapova earlier this afternoon.
