Garbine Muguruza eases into French Open semi-final with win over Maria Sharapova
Garbine Muguruza is through to the semi-final of the French Open with a straight-sets win over Maria Sharapova.
The Spaniard took 73 minutes to despatch her opponent 6-2 6-1 and will play Simona Halep or Angelique Kerber in the semi-final.
Muguruza raced towards a 4-0 lead in the opener and held serve throughout to take the lead.
The pair shared breaks in the opening two games of the second set, before Muguruza went on a run of five successive games to secure the victory.
The world number three is bidding to win her second French Open, after winning in 2016.
