Kyle Edmund crashes out of Estoril Open after defeat to Joao Sousa

Kyle Edmund has been knocked out of the Estoril Open at the quarter-final stage after being beaten Joao Sousa.

The British number one came back from a set down but was whitewashed in the decider as Sousa won 6-3 1-6 6-0.

Edmund saved two break points to stay in contention in the opening set but Sousa eventually broke to make it 5-3 before holding serve to take the set.

The world number 23 hit back in the second set though, racing into a 3-0 lead before breaking again on the way to 6-1.

It took just 23 minutes for Sousa to despatch Edmund in the deciding set, with Edmund scoring just seven points.

Sousa was perfect with two break points and broke again with Edmund serving to stay in the match to secure victory.

The world number 68 will play Greek 19-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final.
