Heather Watson and partner Tatjana Maria are through to the second round of the French Open doubles after a 6-3 6-4 win over Manon Arcangioli and Sherazad Reix.

Watson, who will play Elise Mertens in the singles second round tomorrow, and Maria had to come from behind in the opening set after losing the first three games.

They then won six in a row though, breaking three times in succession and saving two break points themselves to take the lead.

There were five breaks of serve in the second set and Maria and Watson took the crucial fifth for 5-4 before serving out the match.

They will play sixth seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova or Vera Lapko and Raluca-Ioana Olaru in the second round.
