British number one singles player Johanna Konta and Alison Riske have exited the French Open doubles after losing 6-3 4-6 6-7 (3-7) to Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra-Santonja.

Konta and Riske saw two match points saved before being broken while serving for the match and the Spanish pair won three successive points to win the tie-break.

The opening four games of the match were all broken before Konta and Riske took a 5-3 lead and served out the set.

Garrigues and Parra-Santonja won the opening three games of the second, though, and broke at 5-4 to level, before coming from 5-2 down in the deciding set to take the victory in two hours and 24 minutes.

Konta also suffered an opening round defeat to Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in the singles draw.
