Simona Halep through to French Open final after beating Garbine Muguruza
Simona Halep has reached her third French Open final by beating Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.
The world number one hammered her opponent in the first set but had to come from behind in the second to win 6-1 6-4.
Halep, who is yet to win a Grand Slam, was superb in the opener and won all of Muguruza’s service games. Muguruza’s sole success came in the sixth game when she broke to extend the set.
The 2016 champion improved in the second set and broke early on the way to a 3-1 lead. In the end, though, Halep won four games in a row to take the set 6-4.
Halep will play Madison Keys or Sloane Stephens in the final on Saturday.
