Simona Halep has reached her second Wimbledon semi-final by beating China’s Shuai Zhang in straight sets.

The former world number one needed a tie-break to take the opener but strolled towards a 6-1 win in the second set to take the win in 89 minutes.

It could have been so different for Zhang, who looked in control at 4-1 up in the first set, but Halep saved four break points before breaking herself to level before winning the tie-break 7-4.

The second set took less than half the time that was needed for the first set as Halep swept past her opponent in style. Breaks came in the fourth and sixth games of the set before the Romanian served out the match.

She will play Elina Svitolina or Karolina Muchova in the semi-final on Thursday.
