Scottish League Cup: Dundee United move above Hearts with win
Dundee United have moved to the top of the Scottish League Cup Group A after beating League Two side Cowdenbeath.
The Championship side dominated the match from start to finish with goals from Adrian Sporle, Lawrence Shankland and Louis Appere leading them to the win.
Shankland led the United attack in the opening stages and saw a shot saved before heading wide.
Sporle did open the scoring before half time when he found the top right corner after more good work from Shankland.
It was two on the hour mark when Shankland headed in from a Scott Banks cross and Appere completed the scoring four minutes from time with a header into the top right corner after Logan Chalmers’ corner.
United now sit two points clear of Hearts in Group A but the Edinburgh side have a game in hand.
In the evening’s other match, Motherwell eased past Championship side Greenock Morton.
