Ospreys hold off late Zebre comeback

Ospreys have beaten Zebre 22-13 in their opening match of the Pro14 season.

The Welsh side took a 12-point lead into half time but a late try from fly-half Carlo Canna brought Zebre back into the match. Ospreys did hold on though to claim a hard-fought victory.

Ospreys asserted their dominance early and Keelan Giles crossed in the corner after James Hook’s pass out wide.

Canna then pulled three points back with a penalty, before Hook scored a penalty of his own in the 22nd minute.

Ma’afu Fia made it a 15-3 lead at half time when he forces his way over from short range after some attritional attacking play from the Ospreys.

Zebre nearly completed the comeback in the second half, but fell two points short.

Canna dissected the posts after Ospreys gave away a penalty at the start of the half.

George Biagi was then shown the yellow card but Ospreys failed to capitalise.

A late try made it 15-13. Ciaran Gaffney’s run down the left broke through the Ospreys defence before he found Canna to score.

Giles crossed late on to secure victory for the Ospreys.
