British number four Katie Boulter has lost in straight sets to Australia’s Ashleigh Barty.

The world number 156 had previously never met a player in the top-50 of the world rankings and was competing in her first professional quarter-final.

She was unable to cause too many problems for the world number 17 though, and it took just 61 minutes for Barty to prevail 6-0 6-2.

Boulter nearly started the match perfectly but failed to convert two break points in the opening game. Barty found form after that though to race into a one-set lead.

The Brit struck back at the start of the second set, breaking immediately and saving a break point to go two games up.

Barty broke back straight away though and won six games in a row to secure victory.

The top seed will play Naomi Osaka or Mihaela Buzarnescu in the semi-final.
