Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been appointed Everton manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The ex-England midfielder joins with Everton sitting 16th in the Premier League table.

He replaces Rafael Benitez, who was sacked earlier this month after just one win in 13 games.

“It is a huge honour for me to represent and manage a club with the size and tradition of Everton,” said Lampard.

“I’m very hungry to get started.”

Joe Edwards has also joined as assistant manager, with Paul Clement and Chris Jones coming in as first-team coaches.

Current coach Duncan Ferguson was interviewed for the manager’s role, but it is believed that Lampard wants to keep him at the club.

Lampard’s first match in charge will be Everton’s FA Cup tie against Brentford on Saturday.
