Bath survive Leicester Tigers comeback

Bath have held off Leicester Tigers’ late comeback to win at Welford Road for the first time since 2003.

Debutant Jonny May made the most of three late sin-bins to score twice in the last eight minutes but Bath ran out 27-23 winners after a dominant first-half display.

Manu Tuilagi put Leicester 8-0 up midway through the first half but two Max Clark tries and a Semesa Rokoduguni breakaway gave Bath a 13-point half-time lead.

Bath were limited to two penalty kicks from Rhys Priestland in the final 40 minutes.

Kahn Fotuali’i was sin-binned with 11 minutes remaining and May crossed for his first try three minutes later.

Matt Garvey then joined Fotuali’i in the bin to take Bath down to 13 men and it was May once again to go in for the score and cut the deficit to four points.

Just as Fotuali’i came back on, Matt Banahan was yellow-carded but Bath held on to secure the victory.
