Wolverhampton Wanderers have won the Premier League Asia Trophy after a penalty shoot-out win over Manchester City.

Newcastle United have finished third after beating West Ham United in Steve Bruce’s first match in charge.

Wolves and Manchester City played out a goalless draw in Shanghai before Ilkay Gundogan, David Silva and Lukas Nmecha missed in the shootout to give Wolves the win.

Raheem Sterling had already missed from the penalty spot in the first half after a foul by Adama Traore and Silva could have won the game for City near the end but his free-kick hit the post.

Newcastle recovered from Wednesday’s loss to Wolves with Yoshinori Muto scoring the only goal of the game in the first half.

Felipe Anderson had a great chance to level the score on the hour mark but his header hit the crossbar.
