Raul Jimenez, Max Kilman lead Wolves to victory over Everton

Wolverhampton Wanderers have moved to within a point of the European places after a 2-1 win over Everton at Molineux.

Goals from Max Kilman and Raul Jimenez were enough to seal the victory despite Alex Iwobi’s second-half strike for the Toffees.

Wolves were dominant throughout the first half and could have taken the lead early on when Ruben Neves’s shot was well saved by Jordan Pickford.

Pickford was again called into action to stop Trincao from scoring with a superb diving save.

It was not long before Wolves put the ball in the net though, as Jimenez played in Hwang Hee-chan to score but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.

Wolves continue to attack though, and Kilman scored his first goal for the club on the half-hour mark when he headed in from a corner.

Everton gifted Wolves a second just a few minutes later when Ben Godfrey’s poor backpass was intercepted by Jimenez who lifted the ball past Pickford.

The halftime whistle could not have come at a better time for Everton after a woeful first half, and they improved massively after the break.

Jose Sa almost gifted Everton a goal when his clearance hit Richarlison inside the penalty area but Conor Coady was alert enough to bail his goalkeeper out.

It could have been three for Wolves soon after though when Jimenez headed onto the outside of the post from Nelson Semedo’s cross.

Everton did manage to get a goal back though when Godfrey’s long-ranger was deflected into the path of Iwobi to score from 12 yards.

Trincao should have restored Wolves’ two-goal cushion with their next attack. After some great work from Hwang, the ball fell to Trincao but his poor shot went wide when there was only the keeper to beat.

Wolves thought they would have a chance to put the result to bed when Mason Holgate’s foul on Trincao was originally given as a penalty, but VAR came to Everton’s rescue once again with the foul occurring just inches outside of the area.

Richarlison came close to equalising late on when he met a corner but his header was superbly saved by Sa from close range.

The result sees Wolves move up to seventh in the Premier League table. They leapfrog Everton who drop to 10th.
