Dragons have missed out on Champions Cup qualification despite defeating Edinburgh on the final game of the Pro14 season.

The Welsh side needed to win by 45 points and earn a bonus point but could only manage a 24-17 win.

That means that Glasgow Warriors finish fourth place in Group A and now need to wait for European Rugby to decide how many Pro14 teams will qualify for next season’s Champions Cup

For Edinburgh, a win would have seen them finish in fourth place in Group B but they were unable to surpass Cardiff Blues, who will take the final Champions Cup place if eight Pro14 teams are given places.

Two Matthew Screech tries put Dragons in control in the first 12 minutes before Sam Davies made it 17-0 with the boot.

Mesu Kunavula hit back for Edinburgh but Jonah Holmes crossed to extend Dragons lead before the break.

Edinburgh scored 12 points without reply through tries from Charlie Shiel and Blair Kinghorn but were unable to complete the comeback.

Attention now turns towards the Pro14 Rainbow Cup in May, with four South African sides joining the 12 European teams.
