Premier League: Manchester City dominant in derby win

Manchester City were in complete control as they defeated local rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The 2-0 scoreline was not reflective of the gap in quality between the two sides, and the performance will surely heap more pressure on United’s struggling manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United have now lost to bitter rivals on successive weekends, following last week’s 5-0 defeat by Liverpool.

Eric Bailly’s seventh-minute own goal, turning in Joao Cancelo’s cross, set the tone for City and they would have put the result beyond doubt before halftime had it not been for a string of saves by David de Gea.

Bernardo Silva added City’s second before the break when he made the most of poor defending by Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire to finish at the near post.

The result puts Manchester City above Liverpool in second in the Premier League table, six points ahead of fifth-placed United.
