British number four Liam Broady has qualified for the Miami Open after a three-set win over Italy’s Federico Gaio.

Broady came through a first set tie-break but lost his serve at 5-6 in the second as Gaio forced a decider.

The world number 158 won five games in a row in the third set to book his place in the main draw.

In the women’s draw, Harriet Dart went down in straight sets to Czech Republic’s Tereza Martincova.

Martincova eased to a one-set lead in half an hour but world number 148 Dart came back to take a 3-1 lead in the second set.

The British number four was broken twice in the closing stages though to end her Miami Open campaign in the qualifying rounds.
