Formula 1 have terminated their contract with the Russian Grand Prix promoter and will not race in the country in the foreseeable future.

The sport had already cancelled the 2022 race and has now cancelled any possibility of future races in St Petersburg, where it was due to move to from 2023.

Vladimir Putin’s regime has been heavily condemned by world leaders and sporting authorities due to their invasion of Ukraine.

“Formula 1 can confirm it has terminated its contract with the Russian Grand Prix promoter,” a statement read.

“It means that Russia will no longer have a race in the future.

“Last week F1 announced that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in 2022 in the current circumstances.”

Putin was heavily involved in bringing Formula 1 to Russia and presented the trophies in 2014 and 2015.
