Denmark qualify for last-16 after superb win over Russia

Denmark are through to the second round at Euro 2020 after an emphatic 4-1 win over Russia.

After losing their opening matches, a win for Denmark might not even have been enough to progress but the four goals ensured they qualified ahead of Finland and Russia on goal difference.

Mikkel Damsgaard opened the scoring before Yussuf Poulsen scored his second of the tournament.

Artem Dzyuba pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before Andreas Christensen and Joakim Maehle added to the Denmark scoreline.

Damsgaard opened the scoring in style just before halftime when he powered the ball into the top right corner from the edge of the penalty area.

And Poulsen doubled Denmark’s lead on the hour mark when he made the most of a Russian mistake to slid ethe ball into the net.

Jannik Vestergaard then gave away a penalty which Dzyuba powered down the middle, but Denmark reasserted their dominance shortly after with the best goal of the game.
