Croatia come from behind to rescue point against Czech Republic

Croatia are on the brink of exiting Euro 2020 after a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic in Glasgow.

Ivan Perisic’s second-half strike cancelled out Patrik Schick’s penalty but the draw leaves Croatia on just one point in Group D after the opening two matches.

Regardless of the result between Scotland and England this evening, Croatia now must beat Scotland next Tuesday to have any chance of going through.

For the Czech Republic, they look likely to progress to the last-16 after picking up four points so far.

Coming off the back of his double against Scotland, Bayer Leverkusen striker Schick was lively once again. He could have opened the scoring 18 minutes in but Dominik Livakovic pulled off a good save.

And it was Schick who won and scored the penalty too. He took Dejan Lovren’s elbow right on the nose and needed treatment, but stepped up to send the ball low to the left of Livakovic.

Croatia regrouped at half time though and equalised shortly after the restart. Perisic cut in from the left before striking superbly into the far right corner.

Nikola Vlasic should have given Croatia the win too but his shot went inches wide of the right post.

And Bruno Petkovic twice had chances late on but the Czech defence pulled off terrific blocks to keep the point intact.
