Chris Wood scores late Burnley equaliser as Tottenham slip up

A stoppage-time equaliser by Chris Wood has earned Burnley a point against Tottenham Hotspur.

Dele Alli opened the scoring at the start of the second half but Wood finished when one-on-one in the last minute.

Heung-Min Son immediately went for goal from the start but his shot went over the bar from the edge of the penalty. Robbie Brady’s strike had the same outcome at the other end.

Harry Kane and Eric Dier also headed over as Tottenham struggled to hit the target.

James Tarkowski was a threat from set pieces all afternoon. His first sight of goal came in the 27th minute but the centre-half’s header went wide.

Alli finally broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when a poor clearance by Ben Mee fell to him to send the ball into the bottom right corner.

Kane could have then doubled Spurs’ lead five minutes later but shot wide.

The Spurs striker had two more chances to score but Tom Heaton thwarted him on both occasions.

Heaton was called into action again to keep out Christian Eriksen’s shot before Burnley responded with some late attacks.

Hugo Lloris did excellently to snuff out a Wood chance and the new signing nearly levelled but his volley went wide.

It was Wood who finally got the equaliser in the 92nd minute. Brady’s through ball sent him one-on-one to slot into the bottom corner from eight yards.
