Huddersfield Giants moved four points clear of the bottom spot in the Super League after defeating fellow strugglers Hull KR.

The teams went in at half time level but tries from Alex Mellor and Jermaine McGillvary gave Huddersfield an 18-12 win.

Earlier in the game Josh Drinkwater’s opener had been cancelled out by Louis Senior.

Mellor then went over shortly after the start of the second half before Darnell McIntosh stretched Huddersfield’s lead to eight points.

Craig Hall pulled a try back for Hull KR but McGillvary’s try two minutes from time put the result beyond doubt.

Hull KR remain two points clear of bottom side London Broncos, who will move level on points if they shock St Helens on Sunday.
