Scottish Premiership: Rangers, Aberdeen both win

Rangers and Aberdeen have won their opening matches of the Scottish Premiership season.

The Gers beat Motherwell 2-1 in Sunday’s early kick-off before Aberdeen despatched Hamilton Academical 2-0.

Graham Dorrans opened the scoring for Rangers after just four minutes. The Motherwell defence failed to clear a free kick properly and Kenny Miller’s flick found Dorrans to score a goal on his debut.

Ben Heneghan equalised before half time, heading in from Craig Tanner’s superb cross to beat Wes Foderingham.

Dorrans’ debut got even better in the second half after Louis Moult fouled summer signing Fabio Cardoso. Dorrans stepped up to put the spot kick into the bottom left corner and secure the points for Rangers.

Aberdeen dominated the opening stages at Pittodrie and were ahead after 26 minutes. Greg Tansey’s free kick met the head of Anthony O’Connor to divert the ball into the net.

Hamilton’s Xavier Tomas was sent off after an hour and Aberdeen continued to push to double the lead.

That second goal finally came in the 90th minute when Miles Storey curled one in from the left.

The results mean that there were no draws on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership. Rangers and Aberdeen join Celtic, Hibernian, Ross County and St Johnstone who all won on Saturday.
