Ryan Giggs has been appointed as Wales manager on a four-year deal.

The Manchester United legend has never held a manager’s job, but was assistant manager to Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford between 2014 and 2016.

“I am so proud to have been given the honour of managing the national team,” Giggs said in a statement.

“The challenges that we have ahead of us with the Nations League and qualification for Uefa Euro 2020 excite me a great deal.

“I can’t wait to start working with the players as we prepare for those crucial games later in the year.”

Former Wales striker Craig Bellamy, FAW technical director Osian Roberts and former Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen were also interviewed for the role.
