Mexico: World Cup Opening Ceremony – In Pictures

Mexico opened the 2026 World Cup with a colourful and lively opening ceremony at the Azteca Stadium before 84000 fans watched the host nation defeat South Africa in an eventful opening game.

Fans in the stadium were treated to performances from global superstar Shakira, Nigerian singer Burna Boy and a performance of the official World Cup anthem “DNA” by Opera singer Andrea Bocelli and K Pop Demon Hunters singer Ejae.
