Kyle Edmund has reached the third round of the Australian Open after beating Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 6-2 6-2 6-4.

After a surprise five-set win over 11th seed Kevin Anderson on Monday, Edmund finished off Istomin in 97 minutes and will play world number 61 Nikoloz Basilashvili on Friday.

Edmund, the only Brit in the draw after Andy Murray’s withdrawal, held serve throughout and lost just three points on his first serve.

The world number 49 broke with the first game of the match and converted both break points to take the opener 6-2.

He took his chances in the second set too, breaking twice and losing just four points on his serve.

Three love games in the third set saw Edmund ease into the third round.
