Wasps have defeated Sale Sharks 50-35 in their opening game of the Aviva Premiership.

Dan Robson scored four tries to lead his team to victory. Sale came back in the second half but late tries from Will Rowlands and Josh Strauss sealed the victory for Wasps.

Robson scored his first try of the afternoon after just four minutes when he collected a pass from Christian Wade to take the ball over.

His second try came soon after jinking down the blindside from a ruck and a third Wasps try came with less than 20 minutes on the clock.

This time, Wade was put through by Danny Cipriani.

Sale got their scoreboard ticking over on the half-hour mark when Byron McGuigan crossed in the left corner but a Jimmy Gopperth penalty made it 24-7.

Robson completed his hat-trick when Nathan Hughes forced his way through before laying the ball off.

Ben Curry pulled a try back before half time when he charged down a kick.

Six minutes into the second half, Robson scored his fourth try of the day. Wade made the break out wide before finding Robson to complete the move.

Two quick tries brought Sale back into the match. Denny Solomona crossed after a quick tap-and-go from a Wasps offside.

Faf De Klerk made it an eight-point game soon after and sealed Sale’s four-try bonus point.

Rowlands stretched Wasps’ lead once again with eight minutes remaining when he scored near the posts before Alex Rieder took Wasps to 50 after a break by Gaby Lovobalavu.

Strauss made sure Sale scored the game’s final try in the last minute but that proved to be only a consolation for the Sharks.
