Andy Murray and Serena Williams are through to the third round of the mixed doubles at Wimbledon after a straight-sets victory over Fabrice Martin and Raquel Atawo.

Williams had qualified for the singles semi-final earlier in the day, and showed no ill effects after a tough battle against Alison Riske to come through as 7-5 6-3 winners with the former British number one.

The legendary pair had chances to put away the first set with three break points saved in the seventh game and a set point saved when 5-4 up.

They finally got the break when 6-5 up to take the lead with their third set point.

Andy Murray came under pressure on his serve at the start of the second set, but the pair saved two break points. They then went 2-0 ahead after a mammoth game ended after the fifth deuce, the pair converting break point at the fifth time of asking.

Superb volley play from Williams at 5-3 up opened up match point and Murray needed no invitation to seal the deal with an ace out wide.

The multiple Grand Slam champions move on to play first seeds Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar.
