World Cup qualifying: Scotland rescue point in Israel

Scotland have started their World Cup qualifying campaign with two points from two games, after coming from behind to secure a 1-1 draw in Israel.

Ryan Fraser’s second-half goal cancelled out Dor Peretz’s opener to leave the Tartan Army third in Group F.

It was the second time in the space of three days that Scotland have needed to come back to rescue a point after their 2-2 draw against Austria on Thursday.

Israel could have taken the lead early on when Manor Solomon went close from the edge of the area.

It was Solomon who caused problems again for the Scottish defence midway through the first half but he powered a shot into the legs of David Marshall. Scott McTominay then headed wide from an Andy Robertson corner at the other end.

Peretz opened the scoring in stunning fashion just before first-half stoppage time when he powered the ball into the top right corner from 30 yards.

Scotland, though, have developed a knack for conjuring something out of nothing recently and that proved to be the case once again when Fraser struck the equaliser.

Che Adams, who was starting for the first time since switching allegiances from England, found Fraser on the edge of the penalty area who placed a shot past Hibs goalkeeper Ofir Marciano.

Adams nearly stole all three points when he was played in by Fraser but this time Marciano parried the ball away.

The result leaves Scotland two points behind second-placed Austria and four points short of group leaders Denmark.
