Wimbledon: Andy Murray through, Liam Broady also impresses

Andy Murray has led a successful first day for British men at Wimbledon after beating 24th-seed Nikoloz Basilashvili on Centre Court.

The former British number one had to dig deep to defeat the Georgian in four sets.

Murray went two sets up before throwing away a 5-0 lead in the third set.

He bounced back in the fourth though to shock Basilashvili and keep his Wimbledon journey alive.

Liam Broady, another British wildcard, looked superb to beat Marco Cecchinato in straight sets.

Broady held serve throughout the entire match and improved as it went on, racing to a 6-3 6-4 6-0 win in less than two hours.

Teenager Jack Draper was making his Grand Slam debut as the opening match on Centre Court against world number one Novak Djokovic.

A win was never likely but Draper impressed to take the first set 6-4.

Djokovic flexed his muscles from then on in though and eventually prevailed 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-2.

Jay Clarke’s match against Egor Gerasimov will continue tomorrow with Clarke two sets to one down.

Dan Evans faces Feliciano Lopez and Cameron Norrie meets Lucas Pouille.
