Sweden top Group E as Poland knocked out

Sweden scored deep into stoppage time to beat Poland and finish top of Group E.

Viktor Claesson scored in the 94th minute to give Sweden a narrow 3-2 win after an Emil Forsberg double.

Robert Lewandowski netted both of Poland goals but they were unable to find the win that they needed.

The result means Poland finish bottom of Group E with just one point.

Emil Forsberg scored the second-fastest goal in Euros history to give Sweden the lead after just 82 seconds. Alexander Isak got onto the end of a long ball and found the Leipzig striker to fire past Wojciech Szczesny.

Lewandowski missed an absolute sitter to equalise at a corner. His header came off the crossbar and the Bayern Munich man headed the rebound onto the crossbar again from just a yard out.

Forsberg doubled Sweden’s lead on the hour mark when he was put through by Dejan Kulusevski to finish into the bottom right corner.

Poland hit back immediately though and Lewandowski finally beat Robin Olsen when he smashed the ball into the top right corner from 20 yards.

Jakub Swierczok thought he had levelled the score too when he tapped in from Przemyslaw Frankowski’s pass but that was ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee.

Lewandowski did equalise with six minutes remaining to give his team a chance of grabbing the win to seal qualification when he found the net from eight yards after a defensive mistake.

And Swierczok thought he had struck the winner after Lewandowski’s cross was parried by Olsen but the header went just wide.

Sweden hit Poland on the break though and Claesson completed the scoring when he lifted the ball past Szczesny after superb work from Dejan Kulusevski.
