Super League roundup: Wigan hammer Salford, Warrington extend winning run

Wigan Warriors scored six tries to beat Salford Red Devils and move to within two points of Super League leaders St Helens.

Ollie Gildart, Tony Clubb and George Williams scored to give Wigan an 18-0 halftime lead.

Sam Tomkins then ran in twice and John Bateman took it to 30-0 to hand Wigan their sixth successive win in style.

Elsewhere, Warrington Wolves defeated Leeds Rhinos 33-22 to earn their ninth successive win.

Harvey Livett’s hat-trick and tries from Kevin Brown, Ryan Atkins and Ben Murdoch-Masila ensured victory.

Tries from Joel Moon, Ryan Hall and Carl Ablett pulled Leeds back into the game in the second half but Warrington struck late to take the two points.

In the evening’s final game, Jake Wardle scored twice on his debut as Huddersfield Giants beat Widnes Vikings 28-18.

Sam Wood, Ukuma Ta’ai and Alex Mellor also scored for Huddersfield, with Widnes replying through Danny Craven, Ryan Ince and Tom Gilmore
