South Africa have secured a bonus-point by beating Australia in the opening game of the Rugby Championship.

Herschel Jantjies had a debut to remember as he went over twice and Elton Jantjies added 10 points with his boot as South Africa won 35-17.

Scrum-half Herschel Jantjies opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Bernard Foley pulled three points back for Australia.

Andre Esterhuizen was sin-binned midway through the first half but that did not affect South Africa as Lood de Jager went over to extend their lead with 14 men.

South African-born Dane Haylett-Petty pulled a try back for Australia as South Africa went in at the break four points ahead.

The Springboks made the most of Taniela Tupou’s sin-bin to score twice and put the result out of reach.

S’busiso Nkosi went over before Herschel Jantjies added his second try of the match.

Foley scored and converted with 10 minutes remaining to give Australia an outside chance, but Northampton Saints scrum-half Cobus Reinach added one more to extend South Africa’s lead before the final whistle.
