Motherwell have moved to the top of Group E after a convincing win over Scottish Championship Greenock Morton in the League Cup.

Eighteen-year-old striker James Scott scored either side of half time as Motherwell took a huge step towards the second round. Jermaine Hylton and Liam Donnelly netted late on to complete the scoring.

The Well looked on top from the outset and Scott could have opened the scoring before Sherwin Seedorf twice was denied by Morton goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom.

The pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when Seedorf found Scott in the area to finish.

Aidan Nesbitt caused problems for the Motherwell defence before half time but he saw two efforts stopped by Mark Gillespie.

Scott, who made 12 appearances last season, was a constant threat and forced another save with a long-range effort.

His second did come with 24 minutes remaining when Liam Polworth set him up to finish into the roof of the net.

Hylton added a third in the 76th minute when his shot found the bottom right corner before Donnelly completed the scoring eight minutes from time.

The win puts Motherwell three points clear of Morton with two games remaining in the group stage.
