Rangers thrashed Dunfermline Athletic 6-0 to progress to the Scottish League Cup third round.

Three summer signings netted for the Gers, with Kenny Miller and James Tavernier also scoring in the first half.

Alfredo Morelos scored his first two goals for the club either side of half time. Bruno Alves and Daniel Candeias also opened their accounts.

Dundee knocked arch-rivals Dundee United out after a 2-1 win.

Faissal El Bakhtaoui opened the scoring before Billy King equalised in the 40th minute.

Paul McGowan scored the winner in the second half with a placed shot into the bottom corner from 16 yards.

The all-Premiership tie between Ross County and Motherwell was the only match of the evening to go to extra time.

Gael Bigirimana’s goal was cancelled out by Alex Schalk in normal time.

Chris Cadden scored in the second minute of extra time to give Motherwell the lead but Craig Curran equalised from the penalty spot after Charles Dunne handled the ball on the line.

Motherwell played out the final 20 minutes with 10 men after Dunne’s red card but substitute Ross MacLean scored the winner with eight minutes remaining to send them through after a 3-2 win.

Elsewhere, Kenny McLean scored the only goal of the game as Aberdeen beat Hamilton Academical.
