Ross County took a huge step towards progressing to the knock-out stages of the Scottish League Cup by beating St Johnstone.

Scott Tanser gave Saints an early lead from the penalty spot but two Billy McKay goals gave Ross County the win.

The result means that St Johnstone are already knocked out of the Scottish League Cup after falling to a shock defeat to Montrose in their opening game.

Ross County have now won all three games in the competition and will qualify for the second round with a win against Forfar Athletic on Wednesday.

In the other game of the day, Airdrieonians gained their first points of the competition by beating Clyde 3-2 in Group F.

Airdrie were ahead 3-0 after an hour thanks to an Alistair Roy brace and an Adam Eckersley strike.

David Goodwillie scored twice late on but Clyde were not able to complete their comeback.
