Scotland close in on semi-final after beating South Korea at Toulon Tournament

Scotland under-21s took a huge step towards qualifying for the Toulon Tournament semi-final after beating South Korea 2-1.

Early goals from Billy Gilmour and Oliver Burke led the Scots to victory despite heavy South Korean pressure in the closing stages.

Lee Kangin pulled a goal back in the 76th minute but Scotland held on to claim a vital three points.

Scotland will qualify for the semi-final as winners of Group B if Togo fail to beat France later this afternoon.

Gilmour gave Scotland the lead just a minute in when he powered a shot into the net after Glenn Middleton’s cross.

The lead was doubled after eight minutes in style when West Bromwich Albion man Burke dribbled past several defenders before chipping the ball past Min Seung-jun.

South Korea grew into the game in the second half though, and called Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan into action with a 30-yard drive.

Lee did pull a goal back four minutes from time when his 25-yard free-kick beat Doohan.

Scotland held on in the final stages, though, to move three points clear of closest rivals Togo.
