Sam Warburton: ‘I was ready for extra-time’

British and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton has said that he wanted to play extra-time after their 15-15 draw against New Zealand.

The series was shared 1-1 after Lions had levelled with a 24-21 win last week.

“It’s a difficult one. As players you go through all the emotion and pressure of the week and it’s all geared towards winning. It’s better than losing I guess,” Warburton told Sky Sports

“I don’t know what I made of that. I was ready to go into extra-time.

“We’ve come to the double world champs and not got beaten, we can take some credit for that. We had 6-8 weeks to become the best team in the world so we can take some positives from the draw but as players we’re gutted not to see that win.”

Owen Farrell scored all four of his penalties and Elliot Daly also added three points from long range. Ngani Laumape and Jordie Barrett tries gave New Zealand a half-time lead.
