Salford Red Devils have beaten Widnes Vikings 26-12 to move to within a point of the top eight in the Super League.

The teams shared four tries in the first half, with two Tom Gilmore conversions giving Widnes a 12-8 lead.

Gilmore crossed in the sixth minute to give his side the lead before two Kris Welham tries put Salford ahead.

Patrick Ah Van touched down in the 24th minute as Widnes took a four-point lead into the break.

Salford shut Widnes out in the second half though, and tries from Jake Bibby and Greg Burke saw them regain the lead.

Rob Lui’s penalty increased the lead before he crossed late on to cement the victory.

Widnes ended the match with 12 men after Chris Houston was sin-binned for an illegal tackle on Burke before being red carded for dissent.

Salford have now ended their five-match winless run, while Widnes have stretched their winless run to 10 games.
