Rugby Championship: Australia v South Africa thriller ends in draw, New Zealand beat Argentina

Australia and South Africa have played out a thrilling 23-23 draw in the Rugby Championship.

South Africa came from behind to lead before a late Brendan Foley penalty levelled the score.

The teams traded penalties in the opening 10 minutes before Jesse Kriel gave South Africa the lead.

It took just two minutes for Kurtley Beale to bring Australia level before a Foley penalty gave the Wallabies the lead on the verge of half time.

Tatafu Polota-Nau crossed to extend the lead but 13 points without reply, a Malcolm Marx try and two penalties, gave South Africa a three-point lead going into the final 12 minutes.

Australia won a penalty with 10 minutes remaining though and Foley dissected the posts to level the score.

In the day’s early kickoff, New Zealand defeated Argentina 39-22.

Argentina did take a one-point lead into half time when Nicolas Sanchez went over and converted his own try. He had added six points with the boot earlier. Emiliano Boffelli also added three points with a penalty kick.

Nehe Milner-Skudder, Anton Lienert-Brown and Israel Dagg replied before the All Blacks took control in the second half.

Argentina scored just six more points and converted tries from Vaea Fifita, Damien McKenzie and Beauden Barrett secured the win for New Zealand.
