Roger Federer marches on with win over Kei Nishikori at Wimbledon

Roger Federer is through to the Wimbledon semi-finals after a four-set win over Kei Nishikori.

The Japanese took the first set but Federer recovered to win 4-6 6-1 6-4 6-4.

Nishikori broke with the very first game of the set and had to save four break points on the way to an impressive first-set win, but Federer bounced straight back and took just 23 minutes to take the second set with ease.

Federer was so impressive on his serve all afternoon, conceding just three points in the second set, seven in the third and six in the fourth.

For Nishikori though, it was a constant battle to hold serve. He nearly managed it in the third set but was eventually broken at 3-3 for Federer to take the lead.

It was more of the same in a fourth set characterised by long Nishikori service games followed by short Federer service games. The Japanese did hold on though and saved four break points on the way to 4-4 but it was finally time for Federer to go closer to another Grand Slam semi-final.

Nishikori hit wide to give the eight-time champion two break points. The first was saved but Nishikori hit long and Federer was serving for the match.

A return into the net was followed by an ace out wide and another unreturnable serve gave Federer three match points. He only needed one though, another ace seeing the Swiss through to another Wimbledon semi-final.
