Roberto Bautista Agut through after beating Benoit Paire

Roberto Bautista Agut has reached his first Wimbledon quarter-final after a straight-sets win over Benoit Paire.

The 23rd-seed was forced to battle hard in the second set but took control of the match to win 6-3 7-5 6-2.

Paire recorded 18 aces but could only break Bautista Agut once in the match.

The Frenchman could have taken an early break but Bautista Agut saved break point in the opening game of the first set before failing to take advantage of two break points in game two.

Bautista Agut did eventually break to take a 5-3 lead though before serving for the set.

Paire fared better in the second set and broke to love to make it 2-2. The score eventually moved to 5-4 in Paire’s favour but Bautista Agut won three games on the bounce to take the second set.

The Spaniard eased through in the third set though and won the opening four games. He needed to save two break points at 5-2 before completing the win.

Bautista Agut will play Guido Pella or Milos Raonic in the quarter-final. He becomes the second Spaniard in the quarter-final after Rafael Nadal’s victory over Joao Sousa.
