Premier League: Chelsea capitulate, Huddersfield thrash Palace

Reigning champions Chelsea have lost their first game of the Premier League 3-2 to Burnley and newcomers Huddersfield Town have secured three points with a 3-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea got off to a horror start when Gary Cahill was sent off for a professional foul in the 14th minute.

It got even worse for the champions when Sam Vokes volleyed Matthew Lowton’s cross into the bottom corner. Steven Ward then added another before Vokes got his second to give Burnley a 3-0 half-time lead.

Alvaro Morata gave Chelsea a glimmer of hope with a diving header in the 69th minute and David Luiz took Chelsea to within a goal in the 88th minute. Burnley held firm though to secure a famous opening-day victory.

Huddersfield Town are many people’s favourites to finish bottom this season but they scored two early goals to defeat Crystal Palace. Joel Ward’s own goal started the scoring and a 26th-minute goal from Steve Mounie secured a 2-0 half-time lead.

Mounie added another in the 77th minute to extend Huddersfield’s lead and secure the victory.

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring for Everton on the verge of half time and that is the way the score stayed to beat Stoke City.

Elsewhere, Ahmed Hegazy scored a debut goal as West Bromwich Albion beat Bournemouth 1-0 while Southampton and Swansea City played out a 0-0 draw.

In the early kickoff, Watford scored a stoppage-time equaliser to draw 3-3 against Liverpool.
