Peter Crouch scores late to rescue point for Stoke City

Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion have played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Peter Crouch’s 77th-minute equaliser, a finish from close range, cancelled out Jay Rodriguez’s opener.

Bruno Martins Indi nearly gave Stoke the lead nine minutes in but his shot went wide to the right from a corner.

Ben Foster was called into action for the first time shortly after to keep out Kurt Zouma’s shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Maxim Choupo-Moting and Xherdan Shaqiri both had opportunities to give Stoke the lead at half time but could not find the target.

West Brom took the lead on the hour mark. Allan Nyom sent an excellent cross towards Rodriguez, whose header nestled into the left corner of the net.

Ahmed Hegazy then had an opportunity to double the lead but his header was well saved by Jack Butland from Matt Phillips’ free kick.

Crouch was gifted an equaliser with just 13 minutes remaining. A mix-up between Foster and Hegazy saw a harmless ball into the box bounce all the way through to Crouch who headed into an empty net from six yards.

Choupo-Moting could have scored a late winner but headed over the bar.
