Relegation battlers Partick Thistle and Ross County have played out a 1-1 draw in the Scottish Premiership.

Chris Erskine’s opener was cancelled out when Billy McKay made the most of some poor Partick defending.

The point is not much good for either side, with both still rooted to the bottom of the table ahead of the weekend’s other fixtures.

With eight minutes played, Connor Sammon had the ball in the net but a foul on Marcus Fraser in the build-up kept the score level.

Partick took the lead midway through the first half. A mistake from Harry Souttar let Kris Doolan in and his cross was volleyed in by Erskine.

McKay levelled just before halftime. Thistle failed to clear a free kick and Liam Fontaine found McKay to finish from close range.

Ross County could have been awarded a penalty to win the game in the second half when the ball struck Sammon’s arm but referee Kevin Clancy waved play on.

County continued to push and Michael Gardyne’s powerful shot was tipped wide by Tomas Cerny.

It was Gardyne who, again, had a chance to win it 15 minutes from time but he shot narrowly over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

The result means County remain two points behind Partick in the Scottish Premiership table.
