Olivier Ntcham goal gives Celtic victory over Partick Thistle

Olivier Ntcham scored the only goal of the game as Celtic beat Partick Thistle at Firhill.

The champions have won both of their opening Scottish Premiership games and sit atop the table before the weekend’s action.

James Forrest could have given Celtic the lead within the opening 10 minutes but his shot was well saved by Tomas Cerny.

Celtic did lead midway through the first half when a clearance from a corner fell to Ntcham who volleyed into the net from the edge of the area.

Scott Brown nearly doubled the lead before half time but his header went over the bar.

Celtic’s dominance continued in the second half and Kieran Tierney had a chance in the 50th minute. He intercepted Christie Elliott’s pass but shot wide.

Thistle could have grabbed an equaliser a minute later. Elliott’s cross found the head of Kris Doolan but the striker could not hit the target from six yards.

Callum Booth then came to the rescue to stop Jozo Simunovic’s header on the line before Tom Rogic’s shot hit the side-netting.

It looked like Celtic would blow their lead in stoppage time but Thistle’s penalty appeal was turned down. Most fans thought that Nir Bitton fouled Miles Storey but referee Andrew Dallas’ opinion was the only one that mattered and he waved play on.

Celtic have now extended their unbeaten domestic run to 51 matches.
